In the 20th century, the invention of the cyclotron marked a significant advancement in the field of atomic nuclear research. Today, the related technologies are widely applied in medical diagnosis and treatment, offering dynamic, non-invasive examination methods that help patients identify disease sites, enabling timely and targeted medical interventions.
In a cyclotron, charged particles are accelerated within electric and magnetic fields. Once they reach the required energy levels, these particles can induce nuclear reactions within the target, producing the corresponding radioactive isotopes. These isotopes, when attached to various chemical compounds, form radiopharmaceuticals. With the continued innovation and application of technology, this technique has found extensive use in the medical field. When injected into the human body, the radioactive isotopes accumulate at the disease site, and combined with PET/CT (positron emission tomography/computed tomography) imaging, it enables precise localization of the target area.
For many years, medical cyclotron technology was dominated by foreign companies. Today, Chinese enterprises, based on physical theory and leveraging their independent innovation capabilities, have overcome core technical challenges. This has not only led to the domestic development and production of medical cyclotrons but also reduced application costs, expanded the range of radioactive isotopes, and significantly contributed to the advancement of China's medical diagnosis and treatment capabilities.
